That is Steve on the jetty, this is what he thought of it: We had probably one of the best walks ever yesterday in the Ashdown Forest and I would like to thank Peter and the team for working out a superb route (they walked it the day before to make sure we wouldnt get lost thats dedication for you). Carpet upon carpet of Bluebells were visually stunning and truly breathtaking, wed chosen just the right time to see them and the varied changes in scenery kept our interest for the whole afternoon. We saw copper beeches, Harold MacMillans clump and had amazing views of both the North and the South Downs. We were 14 in number, including 2 ladies and the majority stayed for a rather tasty supper in The Red Lion at Chelwood Gate. We left just before 12:30 and after an hours lunch stop mid afternoon arrived back about 6:45pm, 11 miles approx. in total, quite deserted on this walk, those who braved the cool breeze only had to cover up on a couple of occasions. The sun almost broke out, it was a dry day and two brave souls (Martin and Rod) went swimming in one of the ponds along the way. Hope to see some of you in the Chiltern Hills on Tuesday 19th May. Thanks to Richard for overall organisation of this walks programme 17 walks this year, not to be missed. Best regards Steve ![]() ![]() ![]()
